When I write headlines, I usually choose words with impact. Words that would immediately capture the attention of anyone who will read my work like ‘Amazing’, ‘astonishing’ or ‘Uncanny’. Call me old-fashioned, but these words never fail.
The introduction, the first paragraph on any press release, should answer the basic questions of the story: what has transpired? Who were involved? When did the event happen? Where did the story occur? Why did the event happen? The introduction serves as the premise of the press release, as with any story. The tone of which could be given a personal flair, like how a sports fan can deliver it starting with “A massive dunk by Kobe Bryant ended the game last week.” A statement like that establishes the writer as a sports buff due to the application of his or her personal flair to the introduction.
The body of a press release is its meat and bones; a lot of personality can be brought about in this part. This is the part where the details come in. The background and explanation of the press release goes here and it is up to the writer how he or she should tackle this. For my part, I tend to write the body in an easy to read style where everybody that would come upon it would easily get what I wrote. I make sure that whatever I wrote for the introduction gets its due on the body and explained in a manner that would not confuse or turn off the reader.
Writing a press release is like writing down any other article. The format may be different but your own personal touch can liven up an otherwise flat and boring article that everyone thinks of whenever the term press release is mentioned.
